Nonprofit boards have an obligation to act as responsible stewards in managing their financial resources. By adhering to sound accounting principles that produce reliable financial information, you can ensure fiscal responsibility and build public trust.
Do you know how to read the main financial documents? Do you know what you’re looking at when you are reviewing financials in your board meetings? Does your organization follow the appropriate regulations and procedures to accomplish your mission in effective and efficient ways? As a board member, you have fiduciary responsibility to know what is going on with your organization’s finances. This session will cover the basics of nonprofit financial documents, explain what you’re looking at in those board meetings, and give you a sense of what you should be looking for and the questions you should be asking.
This session will help you look at future board financial reports with more confidence.
Board Bits are designed by MCN’s Greater Minnesota team to frame trending nonprofit topics across the state and to spur dialogue amongst peers. Each session will offer learning from subject matter experts along with time for Q & A and discussion on the designated topic.
