Dot.Org Awards

Who are the leaders in innovative uses of technology? Which organizations are pioneering new approaches in communications? The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits is proud to present the Dot.Org Awards, recognizing nonprofits who are using technology and communications in inspiring, effective, and creative ways.

Consider nominating your organization for a Dot.Org Award. These awards are presented every year at the Nonprofit Communications and Technology Conference. Nominate your organization (or another organization doing outstanding work) in the categories of:

  • Creative Campaign
  • Program Delivery
  • Website Redesign

The Dot.Org Awards welcome nominees from any Minnesota-based nonprofit organization doing innovative and creative work with technology. The nominated project must have been launched in the last 18 months. A nonprofit may enter in more than one category, but each nomination should meet the criteria for which it is nominated and separate entries are required. Award winners from the previous year are ineligible the following year. Please do not resubmit entries from previous years.

Nominations are closed for 2019. Check back next year!

Please refer to this information when filling out the nomination form. The nomination forms ask for information on:

  • The nominated nonprofit
  • The nominated project
  • Nonprofit AND project budget size
  • The audience(s) of the project
  • Nomination category
  • How the project meets the criteria for that category
  • How the project aligns with the organization’s mission
  • Demonstrated results of the project
  • Your contact information
  • Contact information for the nominated project

Award Categories

Creative Campaign

Examples of projects in this category could include, but are not limited to: fundraising campaigns, advocacy campaigns, marketing initiatives, and public awareness campaigns.

Nominated projects should meet the following criteria:

  1. Demonstrates the campaign used the right tools for the job
  2. Used a creative or novel approach
  3. Was effective in the goals set forth
  4. Engaged the audience effectively


Program Delivery

Examples of projects in this category could include, but are not limited to: mapping for program participants, hardware or software for participant improvement, streamlining program services, and connecting people to information. NOTE: The nominated project must be able to be reviewed by the selection committee. If the program delivery is an internal process, please demonstrate by granting the committee access to view the innovation. This can be done through setting up a user account, providing a demonstration video or other method of sharing.

Nominated projects should meet the following criteria

  1. Solves a problem/challenge
  2. Meets participant or client needs
  3. Improves service delivery
  4. Creative use of technology


Website Redesign*

Examples of projects in this category could include, but are not limited to: brand new websites, complete redesigns or site face lifts, and rebranding projects on the web.

Nominated projects should meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet a clear need (please explain the process to determine needs)
  2. Includes a strategy for continued improvement based on analytics or other tools
  3. Includes an integrated content strategy
  4. Used an inclusive process during development 

*This category is divided into two: one for small organizations (organizational budget size under $750,000) and one for large organizations (organizational budget size over $750,000).

Additional Information

Winning organizations receive:

  • Two complimentary admissions to the Nonprofit Communications and Technology conference
  • A complimentary exhibit booth to showcase the project
  • Recognition during a conference session
  • A project description in the conference program
  • A listing in the Past Winners page of MCN's website
