Nonoko Sato Joins the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits as Associate Director

St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) is pleased to announce Nonoko Sato as the organization’s new associate director, effective January 2, 2018.

In her new role, Nonoko will partner closely with MCN executive director Jon Pratt to chart MCN’s strategic response to organizational and sector challenges. She will also play a critical role in shaping and implementing the organization’s strategy, including oversight of member services and programs, operations and financial management, as well as leading the annual planning and budgeting process and guiding new strategic initiatives and special projects each year.

Prior to joining MCN, Nonoko served for nine years as executive director of SMART, a San Francisco-based nonprofit that provides low-income students access to exceptional education and college success. She also served on the boards of the San Francisco Friends School, Ferocious Lotus Theatre Company and Asian American Theater Company.

“Throughout the entire hiring process, it became clear to MCN’s leadership team that Nonoko was a true engager and inspirer—a well-rounded and determined nonprofit leader with a deep understanding of the challenges facing nonprofits and the options in front of them,” notes Pratt. “During her time in San Francisco, she was highly respected by peer organizations, seen as a strong and trusted leader by her board, and considered an amazing supervisor and community builder with staff.”

Originally from Chicago, Nonoko graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, MN. For the past 17 years, she has lived in the Bay Area. Now with a growing family, Nonoko and her husband Ted (from Bemidji) have relocated to South Minneapolis.

“I’m thrilled to be back to an area with seasons and in a place as diverse, friendly and beautiful as Minnesota,” said Nonoko. “Having been a member of CalNonprofits and other membership organizations in the past, I know the value and the impact organizations like MCN can make for such a diverse range of organizations that serve our communities in Minnesota.”
