Nonprofits Speak Up To Show Lawmakers Role of Critical Services

Minnesota Speaks UpSt. Paul, Minn., March 7, 2011 -- Today the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) launched the Minnesota “Speaks Up” Campaign, which will engage the nonprofit community in “Speaking Up” about what’s important to organizations and their communities.

As Minnesota faces a budget deficit that is dire, urgent and serious, our state’s nonprofit organizations will “Speak Up” and to let legislators and decisionmakers know what matters to communities.

“Nonprofits care deeply about the choices that state legislators are facing. And, we know that Minnesota’s nonprofit organizations have critical information that can help state legislators make informed decisions that take into account the needs and opportunities in their communities,” said Susie Brown, MCN’s public policy director. “That’s why we’re launching the Minnesota “Speaks Up” Campaign to encourage our members to “Speak Up” at this critical time in Minnesota.”

As part of the campaign, nonprofit staff and volunteers are provided tools and assistance to “Speak Up.” MCN is providing a toolkit with information on:

  • How to access one-on-one assistance
  • Tips for finding your elected official and setting up meetings
  • How to tell your story
  • Four free webinars to offer more support
