Nonprofit Leadership Conference Description

Thriving through change.
Adapting to current realities.
Making a difference.
Providing hope.
Finding opportunity.
Taking charge.
Letting go.
Being bold.

Defining leadership isn't easy. Leading isn't easy. And despite these realities, our communities need strong leaders.

Minnesota's communities require effective nonprofit leaders who can address current, local needs and can chart a path toward a successful future. The path of leadership requires a balance of engaging and listening to others while also being decisive and bold.

Join your colleagues to learn from one another, recharge and network. Use this time to take stock of practical leadership tools, to consider adaptive challenges and to prepare for the changes necessary to thrive as an individual, as an organization and as a community.
Join the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) as we challenge presenters and attendees to engage one another across difference, to seek commonalities and to support one another on a path toward leadership. The 2017 Nonprofit Leadership Conference will address these themes; we hope you’ll join us.

Submitting a Session Proposal

If you are a consultant or employee of a for-profit company, we encourage you to include one or more nonprofit representatives in your session. This way, session participants will have a direct connection to the topic or issue through a peer presenter. Sessions with nonprofit co-presenters will have a much higher rate of acceptance. In some cases, sessions will be accepted on the condition that a nonprofit co-presenter will be added to the line-up.

Breakout sessions are 60 - 75 minutes long. You will be asked to provide the following information in the online proposal:

  • Session title (maximum 8 words)
  • Session type: formal presentation, panel presentation, activity/demonstration, open space discussion, other (We encourage interactivity and creativity!)
  • Session description: 150 words or less
  • Three learning objectives
  • Scope: Inter-organizational, organizational, personal leadership
  • Contact information for main contact person: Full contact information for the session presenter who will be MCN's main contact during the planning process.
  • Co-presenter information (optional): If you will have one or two co-presenters, please include their information. (Please note that 3 total presenters (inclusive of any moderator) may be admitted to the conference with free registration. Any additional presenters will pay the full conference registration fee.)
  • Background information: If you have never presented at the Leadership Conference or another of MCN’s conferences, please include brief background information highlighting your expertise on the topic and your experience as a workshop presenter.

About Conference Participants

The Nonprofit Leadership Conference is designed for nonprofit volunteers, staff and board members who serve in any role within their organization – at any stage of leadership – in the Twin Cities, across Greater Minnesota and around the nation. This conference is also appropriate for representatives from foundations, businesses, educational and governmental institutions and other nonprofit allies. Topics on the conference agenda will span a broad range of ideas and expertise. Registration is projected around 400 attendees.

Registration and Travel Information

MCN will automatically register up-to 3 presenters/facilitators per accepted workshop session. These individuals will be registered for the full conference at no cost. We sincerely hope that presenters will take advantage of this great opportunity to attend the full conference and to interact with other attendees over the course of the conference. (In limited cases, MCN may register 4 presenters for panels seeking diverse viewpoints. Talk with Paul Masiarchin if this is your situation.) MCN will not handle any travel logistics. We will not be able to pay for any speaker stipend, mileage or lodging expenses for workshop presenters.
