Organization Summary:

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is caused when a woman drinks alcohol during pregnancy. FASD is common. It is costly. And it is 100% preventable. Since 1998, the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (MOFAS) has been the hub of hope for individuals and families affected by FASD. MOFAS is the statewide organization serving as the leading voice and resource on FASD in Minnesota - standing up for the rights of the FASD community, providing education and training so FASD is better understood and working to ensure that all women know that there is no safe level of alcohol use during pregnancy.

Primary Duties:

The Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (MOFAS) provides support to families through a network of contracts called Family Resource Coordinators. We are looking for two qualified caregivers from the metro area who are excited about offering real live support opportunities for families living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), as well as motivating community members to get involved with FASD prevention and advocacy. One contract position will serve families in Ramsey County. The other contract position will serve families in Dakota and Washington Counties. The qualified individual would dedicate 10 hours weekly toward varied activities. Responsibilities will include: • Offering in-person, phone, and online support opportunities in the community on a regular basis; • Communicate regularly with the MOFAS office, serving as an advisor on local resources, contacts and needs and as a link between MOFAS and families; • Participation in local advocacy and public awareness opportunities as well as recruit families to participate in advocacy activities; • Help further the development of the MOFAS Resource Directory • Help conduct family retreats and support groups

Experience:

Qualified individuals will: • Have experience parenting individuals affected by an FASD (preferred); • Preferably live in Ramsey, Dakota, or Washington Counties; • Have experience and competence providing support to Native American and/or African American populations (preferred); • Be actively engaged in the community and demonstrate a respectable level of leadership among their peers (preferred); • BA Degree or equivalent experience (preferred); • Have good written and verbal communication skills in both face-to-face and online settings (required); • Have a car, computer, phone, and internet access.

 

Additional Info:

This is a one-year non-renewable contract position beginning Summer or Fall, 2013 through June 30, 2014. It is not an employment position with MOFAS.
