Organization Summary:

Standpoint, formerly the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project, is a statewide, non-profit whose mission is to promote justice for domestic and sexual violence victims. Standpoint attorneys and advocates provide legal advice, legal advocacy, support, and safety planning to victims on a daily basis. We also provide support and training to advocates and attorneys who serve victims within their own rural or metro communities. Standpoint intentionally focuses on communities who have historically been underserved and continually works to expand on the agency’s ability to serve ALL victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Primary Duties:

Communications Objectives: Organize trainings, perform outreach, and build capacity for the youth labor trafficking project; create/update/improve communication channels; and maintain relationships with culturally specific organizations. Some activities include: Organize trainings for youth labor trafficking project; maintain and improve Standpoint’s communication plan; expand Standpoint’s contact lists; maintain a robust internet and social media presence for Standpoint; and attend community meetings/events to stay current with local activities. 

 
Sustainability Objectives: Create sustainability plans for social media and communication activities to ensure such activities can be carried out by Standpoint in future years. Some activities including: Develop fundraising material for Standpoint’s annual event; develop a grant and fundraising plan and draft grant proposals; and review and implement strategies consistent with the fundraising plan.

Experience:

AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National or have status as a Lawful Permanent Resident Alien 
  • Note that final candidates will be required to successfully pass a background check before being officially enrolled as an AmeriCorps VISTA Member
 
VISTA Qualifications: 
  • Experience using social media
  • Some knowledge of social media and communications strategies
  • Ability to work in multi-cultural and multi-lingual environments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently while also working as a team
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
 
Preferred:
  • A basic knowledge of domestic and sexual violence
  • Experience with Squarespace or other website design platforms
  • Experience working with victims in underrepresented communities
  • Grant writing experience
  • Knowledge of other language(s)

 

Additional Info:

This AmeriCorps VISTA serves full-time for 12 months in the MCN cohort. In-service benefits include: a living allowance (approximately $472 pre-tax biweekly); health care allowance (~$7,900 that can be applied to any out-of-pocket costs, but not premiums or dependents); $300 professional development fund; qualified student loan forbearance; $6,095 Education Award or cash stipend (approx. $1,800) upon successful completion of service; $750 settling-in allowance for VISTAs relocating more than 50 miles; access to MCN trainings for reduced price; and monthly professional development retreats.

 
This position permits part-time employment and/or part-time enrollment in school, not to exceed 20hrs/week.
