Cornerstone is a $5M agency with approximately 90 employees.  Our organization serves individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking, with office locations in Bloomington, Minneapolis, and Brooklyn Center.

Cornerstone has developed one of the most comprehensive service continuums for victims of violence in Minnesota. Our services are designed to move individuals and families from crisis to safety, stabilization and security. Last year approximately 4,000 individuals accessed Cornerstone programming. Primary Duties:

The Crisis Advocate will provide support to clients, children and families who are in need of emergency and support services. This support will be offered to those who call the crisis line and those who come to Cornerstone after an accurate assessment has been completed. The Crisis advocate will also utilize the Day One process to ensure access to safety for all who call Cornerstone.



  • Provide crisis line support and referral through Day One as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and a professional manner at all times.
  • Process new intakes and ensure all paperwork is appropriately completed and apprise new clients of necessary information for living in the shelter.
  • Provide emergency transportation; provide needed household supplies and food to clients.
  • Call in new intakes and exits to voicemail to housing coordinator.
  • Keep house laundry current and units cleaned after exit of a family.
  • Maintain office files with updated and sufficient forms for intake and exit.
  • Spend time with shelter clients to provide comfort and a listening presence.
  • Inform maintenance staff and supervisor of maintenance needs in the shelter area.
  • Attend staff meetings and training as requested.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

  • Experience:

    Education and/or Experience:

    Associate Degree preferred; Experience in crisis intervention, preferably with women and children experiencing violence in their lives; Knowledge of resources and how to access them; Ability to work independently and make decisions under pressure; Experience working with a diverse population; must have access to a reliable car, a valid Minnesota driver’s license and proof of ongoing automobile insurance.

The employee should always request assistance if any object needs to be lifted and the employee feels that their capabilities are such that the specific item to be lifted is beyond the employees abilities. No employee should attempt to lift more than what is comfortable for them. If such a situation should arise the employee should notify their supervisor to find help with lifting any item regardless of weight if the object to be lifted is awkward or difficult to lift in any way.
