Organization Summary:

Standpoint, formerly known as the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project (BWLAP), is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote justice for domestic and sexual violence victims throughout Minnesota.

Since 1996, Standpoint has established a statewide reputation as the premiere legal resource for domestic and sexual violence victims and those who work with them including advocates and attorneys. We provide direct representation, legal information, training, litigation support, and expert support on program and legal issues.

Hours: 5-15 hours/month 

Primary Duties:

Consistent with these values, we are looking for passionate and committed volunteers with diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and professional skills to join our Board.

Standpoint Board Members work closely with other Board Members in overseeing the general operations of the agency, strategic planning, fundraising, and large-scale decision-making. Board Member responsibilities include close communication with the Executive Director, active participation in fundraising campaigns, review of financial statements and approval of annual budgets, proactive building of relationships across the community, and serving as an ambassador of the organization.

Board Members are expected to regularly attend monthly meetings, serve on at least one board committee, and actively participate in all board activities during their 2-year term. Board members may serve up to four terms. While our Board meets in Minneapolis, Board Members from greater Minnesota are encouraged to apply and participate remotely, as necessary.
