Primary Duties:

Purpose Statement

The Activities Assistant is responsible for supporting member growth in social and interpersonal areas through engaged activities.

• Follow best practices and established routines for activity design and implementation
• Demonstrate independent decision-making, planning and follow-through 
• Provide activities development for the MICC Community Program, ensuring a variety of opportunities are provided to members to create excitement, enhance interpersonal growth and increase member engagement 
• Foster positive relationships between participants
• Assist in resolution of member issues and concerns, referring issues to specialists, activities team and the Leadership teams as appropriate 
• Facilitate positive relationships with community partners and promote MICC whenever possible 
• Maintain confidentiality and promote respect for all MICC students, graduates, staff, families and others 
 
Areas of Responsibility
Activity Programming Duties
• Plan and implement innovative activities within an established budget 
• Communicate activities through monthly calendars in print and/or online, flyers (sign-up lists) or other methods to ensure complete and timely information is provided to Members
• Act as a first responder while on duty to report significant events to the Director of Community Programs and coordinate responses to emergency personnel and members of the Leadership Team when required
• Provide transportation to activities and supervise members while out in the community
• Attend family weekends, travel programming, and special events as needed
 
Day Programming Duties
• Collaborate with team staff to develop and implement supplemental social engagement services to individual members.
• Collaborate with team staff to develop and implement targeted small group learning labs and day programming activities in arts, technology, healthy living, or other various topics.
• Assist in departmental initiatives to develop new programming in the community and in the Community Center
 
Administrative and Operational Duties
• Prepare and present weekly activities planning logistics with the Social Engagement Coordinator to review risks, liabilities, staffing plans, and resources
• Utilize and update Activities Phone address book, Remind101 Databases, and other reminder systems as needed
• Collaborate with other activity employees to implement plans for event photography, video, or social media marketing efforts
• Ensure documentation is completed for activity attendance, engagement metrics, problem resolution, incident reports and personal issues that happen during scheduled shifts  
• Assist in operational tasks in the Community Center including securing the facility, activity clean-up, event preparations, and minor maintenance tasks as assigned
 
 
 
 
 

Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, Art Education, Outdoor Recreation, Community Education, Occupation Therapy or equivalent experience is required. Experience in working with adults with learning disabilities is highly desirable. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills are a must. A current driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
