Primary Duties:

Purpose Statement

The Coach is responsible for working directly with MICC community members to improve their overall health and well-being through fitness and nutrition coaching, as well as teaching independent living and social skills and supporting members in their acquisition and use of these skills.

Areas of Responsibility

Physical Health and Nutrition

·          Teach the fundamentals of nutrition and fitness to individuals and small classes of 2-5 members

·          Coach athletics and participate along-side members in a variety of sports and fitness activities (ex: Special Olympics, YMCA Group Activities, Physical Therapy Regimens)

Activities of Daily Living

·          Support members with their independent living skills in the areas of grocery shopping, healthy cooking, food portioning and storage, cleaning routines and schedules, laundry skills, and other activities of daily living

· Identify and implement accommodations that may be necessary to support members in learning and/or performing independent living skills

Community Integration and Social Engagement

·          Personally connect with members and identify/address barriers to participation

·          In conjunction with the Activities Program, promote a safe, warm, welcoming environment in the Community Center

General

·          Collaborate with employees to create and implement structured daytime activities in Physical Health, Nutrition, Social, and Activities of Daily Living

·          Assist in resolution of routine member issues and concerns

·          Identify and implement accommodations that may be necessary

·          Promote and encourage member attendance at activities

·          Case note all information in members electronic file and communicate to families as appropriate

·          Managing a flexible schedule and coordinating with member schedules

·          Transporting members as needed

·          Traveling off-campus to member residences

 

 


Experience:

Qualifications – Education & Experience

Preferred  B.A., B.S. in Social Sciences (Social Work, Mental Health, Behavior Analysis/Therapy, K-12/ABE Teaching and Special Education or similar) or Health Sciences (Nutrition/Fitness, Nutrition/Culinary Arts, Sports Promotion/Coaching, Physical Therapy and Community Education or similar) preferred. Previous experience educating or coaching and/or providing services to individuals with ASD or learning disabilities is highly desirable. Experience in nutrition or wellness coaching and fitness support or skill-building and social-emotional development curriculum preferred.  Personal Training Certification preferred.

·          Ability to maintain confidentiality of organizational, employee and student information

·          Demonstrated professionalism in work performance and communication with others

 

·          Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with strong oral and written communication skills

Schedule Tuesday - Saturday 

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 11:30 am - 8:00 pm

 

Friday, Saturday 9:00 am - 5:30 pm

 

Salary range: $32,000 - $34,000
