Arc Northland Mission and Goals: 

Arc Northland's mission is to promote and protect the human rights of people with disabilities and their families, while actively supporting full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetime. 

Key Areas include:

  • To promote and advocate for the rights of all persons with disabilities;
  • To develop programs and services that benefit people with disabilities and their families;
  • To provide advocacy, education, and support services to people with disabilities and their families; 
  • To provide information, education, and resources to people with disabilities, families, and the community regarding issues affecting people with disabilities; and
  • To collaborate with public and private groups, agencies, or organizations in the furtherance of Arc Northland's mission and values.

Primary Duties:

The Board member will perform typical volunteer management duties of a nonprofit board of directors, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Attend monthly meetings held every third Wednesday of the month from 5 to 6 pm; 
  • Attend major fundraising events and participate in activities consisting of advertising and encouraging participation from donors and supporters for all events;
  • Governance of the organization; 
  • Assisting with the strategic planning, initiative and direction of the organization; 
  • Administration to ensure the appropriate systems are in place to oversee the effectiveness of the organization; 
  • Financial management; and 
  • Provide direction and support to Executive Director. 

Experience:

The desired board member will be an individual with experience in the area of disabilities.  A passion for advocating for the human rights of individuals with disabilities and their families and the community is also strongly encouraged.  Experience in nonprofit board management and governance is also desired but not necessary.

Service Commitment:

Arc Northland board of directors serve two-year terms up to a maximum of six years.
