Founded in 1938, Hennepin History Museum is dedicated to bringing the diverse history of Hennepin County and its residents to life through exhibitions, library, collections, publications and educational programs. We collect, preserve and share Hennepin County history to educate, enlighten and inspire. Hours: Flexible: 15-20 hours/week. Monday-Friday,10 am-5 pm 

Primary Duties:

Hennepin History is conducting a full inventory of our collection - a process expected to take up to two years - and is currently seeking interns to assist with the hands-on, object-oriented work of cataloging the collection, researching objects, and building an internal and online Past Perfect collections database. Other opportunities during the internship may include: preparing for upcoming fall exhibits including selecting or preparing objects, preparing interpretive text, and/or assisting in exhibit installation; as well as assisting at public programs at the Museum. 

Specific activities may include:

  • Cataloging a diverse range of artifacts from across the collection
  • Rehousing collections to current museum standards
  • Photographing collection of objects to archival standards
  • Enter object records into a Past Perfect database
  • Researching and writing collections-focused blog posts and social media outreach

While not necessary, knowledge of museum best practices and/or previous experience with collections management software is a plus. 


Additional Info:

Start and end dates of internship, as well as weekly work schedule, are flexible, but preference will be given to candidates who can dedicate 15-20 hours per week during the following days/hours: Monday-Friday, 10 am - 5 pm.

All work is onsite at Hennepin History Museum.

Work is in a shared office environment; non-ADA accessible; must be able to climb stairs. No central air conditioning.
