Organization Summary:

Nexus Community Partners seeks a full time Administrative Specialist to be an integral part of Nexus’ administrative team. The Administrative Specialist will take the lead in coordinating and supporting programs such as the Community Engagement Institute, Community Wealth Building programming, the North Star Black Cooperative Fellowship, the Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute, as well as supporting Nexus’ internal office management.

Nexus Community Partners is a community-building intermediary whose mission is to “build more engaged and powerful communities of color by supporting community-building initiatives and foster social and human capital.”  We work to make sure that communities of color are at the forefront of making decisions that impact them and that they have the power and tools to generate and maintain wealth.

The major activities that Nexus engages in are:

  • Systems Change: As an intermediary, we bridge partnerships between other funders, partners in the public sector, and community partners (such as neighborhood organizations and small nonprofits) to develop more equitable systems in areas like transit planning, philanthropy, and public health.

 

  • Capacity Building Support: As a funder, we strengthen the power of on-the-ground organizations in communities of color through financial support and technical assistance. We help these organizations build their leadership and organizational infrastructure, develop programs, implement community engagement strategies, improve their fundraising, and more. 

 

  • Building Leaders: We provide leadership development opportunities for people of color interested in influencing public policy and developing community wealth through cooperative economics.

Job Type: Full Time Salary: $16.00 - $20.00/hour (plus a comprehensive benefits package)
Hours: FT - 30hrs/week 
 

Primary Duties:

Administrative Support

  • Assist with administrative correspondence including mailings, emails, and phone calls
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining supplies for the office and ordering requested supplies for programs
  • Maintain organization calendar by incorporating all program and organizational events through communication with program staff
  • Assist with keeping the office maintained and organized including monitoring the organizational calendar for meetings starting at or before 9am to assist with set-up as needed
  • Schedule meetings as needed
  • Support vendor relationships in cooperation with the Executive Assistant

 

Program Support

  • Provide logistical support for programs and other organizational activities including: ordering food, reserving appropriate convening spaces, setting up for program sessions, and technology setup and troubleshooting
  • Work with program staff to prepare for program sessions by printing and collating materials, creating PowerPoint presentations, as well as packing materials for on- and offsite programming
  • Provide clerical support for program/cohort recruitment processes

 

Data Management

  • Perform data entry of completed program evaluations
  • Assist with basic reporting of data to program staff and others
  • Provide support for organizational database and information systems as required

 

Other Job Duties

  • Provide back-up support for the Executive Assistant
  • Support the Executive Assistant in the management, coordination, and troubleshooting of Nexus’ IT systems, hardware, and software
  • Manage and support special projects or assignments as requested and appropriate 

Experience:

  • Associate’s degree preferred and/or 2-3 years relevant experience in nonprofit and/or community work
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to think critically and problem solve
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, required
  • Ability to  learn new software programs and has the ability to trouble shoot basic technology issues
  • Ability to self-motivate and self-direct; organize own work, set priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously
  • Flexibility regarding work assignments and ability to respond positively to changing demands and priorities
  • Excellent knowledge of office procedures and systems
  • Understands and embraces efforts that promote racial, social and economic equity and asset-based community change
  • Capacity to work cross-culturally to achieve understanding and results.  Ability to establish and maintain trust readily with a diverse set of partners
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Additionally, must be able to work well with different work styles
  • Ability to both see possibility and ask hard questions with respect and discretion
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle.
  • Available to work minimal evenings and weekends

 


 

Additional Info:

The ideal candidate would be able to start March 2018 and will report to the Executive Assistant.
