Mental Health Professional - Clinical Supervisor

Our services are designed to move individuals and families from crisis to safety, stabilization and security. Last year approximately 4,000 individuals accessed Cornerstone programming. Primary Duties:

The Clinical Supervisor is an independently licensed mental health professional who has documented competency in providing trauma informed clinical mental health treatment for adults, children and youth impacted by sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking and has demonstrated clinical and staff supervision, as well as program development.  The clinical supervisor will oversee and participate in the daily operation of Cornerstone’s clinical mental health program and the Clinical Services internship program. This position is based out of the Bloomington office, but may work in all of Cornerstone’s office locations (Minneapolis and Brooklyn Center).


1) Provide individual and group supervision to program therapists and graduate students;

2) Provide direct therapeutic services to individuals, families and groups;

3) Provide training to graduate students and the community on clinical topics; and

4) Lead the program development for delivery of clinical mental health services

This position must be available to work a minimum of 2 evenings a week and will work provide oversight to therapeutic work occurring in all of Cornerstone’s locations; Minneapolis, Bloomington, and Brooklyn Center.

Supervisory/ Administrative Responsibilities:

Clinical Supervision:

·            Oversee the day to day operations and mental health staff of Clinical Services

·            Provide clinical supervision for clinical services staff

·            Provide individual and weekly group supervision for program therapists and interns

·            Ensure program therapists deliver effective assessment and services consistent with contracted requirements and agency clinical policies and procedures

·            Assist with the development and implementation of clinical process for intake, documentation, on-going therapy sessions, and termination 

·            Oversee clinician caseload expectation and assign cases as needed 

·         Facilitate weekly program and case consultation meetings

·         Ensure that clinical documentation is meeting clinical practice standards

·         Maintain confidentiality of records in accordance with current HIPAA standards

·         Assist with recruitment, training, implementation and oversight of internship program for clinical services

·         Provide co-therapy with another licensed therapist or practicum student as requested


  • Maintain effective and timely communication and documentation regarding services and client status.  
  • Oversee, monitor and act as a liaison between Cornerstone and the electronic health record and documentation system used in the agency
  • Review and maintain accurate, complete, confidential participant information in files and data base in a timely manner
  • Write, review and comply with all State laws for reporting child abuse, vulnerable adult abuse and situations for reporting to law enforcement or protection services.
  • Ensure adherence to NASW Code of Ethics, HIPAA standards, as well as state professional and ethical standards for mental health
  • Participate in quality assurance for the clinical program, i.e., audits, review of documentation, clinical trainings, and electronic health record training
  • Provide timely reporting for funders and Development Staff as needed
  • Perform other responsibilities assigned, requested or approved by supervisor


Direct Service:

  • Provide professional therapeutic clinical services to clients across the lifespan from children to adults (includes individual, family, and/or group therapy) who have been affected by interpersonal violence
  • Conduct crisis and/or mental health screening and triage to determine service needs
  • Facilitate support group and/or therapeutic groups as needed and assigned
  • Provide care coordination for clients and their families that includes working with external agencies to support client and provide referrals to resources
  • Complete safety and self-care plans with clients as needed
  • Maintains at least 25% direct services productivity level
  • Maintain compliance with community practice standards; complete diagnostic assessments, closing summaries, progress notes, and clinical treatment plans.

Indirect Services

  • Advocate on behalf of participants with community organizations, schools, or human services system in order to coordinate care 
  • Facilitate parent supportive services (i.e. education, advocacy, or group) and communicate with parents/caregivers regarding concerns or progress
  • Coordinate and communicate with significant people in the lives of the client
  • Connect with and coordinate services with other agencies or professionals providing services with shared clients


Outreach/ Collaboration Duties:

  • Actively collaborate with other CYF or Cornerstone programs to provide prevention, outreach, educational, or intervention services

·         Collaborate with other Cornerstone programs, and actively look for new and creative opportunities for growth and program development.

  • Attend other community meetings, events and initiatives as assigned
  • Assist in program public relations and marketing for the program and the agency
  • Develop professional relationships and maintain a practical understanding of available community resources
  • Maintain existing and develop new community partnerships



  • Provide all on-boarding, orientation to Clinical Services Program, vetting therapeutic services of staff and if necessary service delivery training for the staff to be fully equipped to assess, address and deliver trauma appropriate clinical mental health services and as related to the other core principles of the CYF Programs.
  • Create, develop and provide presentations and trainings to community members, professionals and other groups
  • Participate with other team members, CYF program staff and other Cornerstone program staff in creating and developing trainings, workshops and presentations


Human Resources/ Professional Development:

·         Must complete the required sexual violence/domestic violence training within the first 6 months of employment

  • Attend workshops and trainings (as negotiated with supervisor) for increasing professional skills and or to maintain
  • Maintain active license with a professional licensing board (or is actively working towards achieving the highest level of clinical license)
  • Assist in the hiring, orientation, training of program staff and interns
  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
  • Provide support and oversight of employee performance and productivity
  • Maintains relevant documentation relating to personnel files


Organizational Expectations:

  • Ability to travel to various Cornerstone location for client or professional meetings
  • Attend and participate in program meetings, all-staff meetings, trainings and any other Cornerstone related meetings as assigned
  • Promote Cornerstone mission and philosophy
  • Display high ethical/professional standards
  • Participate on internal and external committees as assigned
  • Attend Board meetings at the request of the Executive Director
  • Work with Program Manager to develop annual program budgets
  • Participate in the grant writing and reporting processes as needed


 ·            Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or related Social Science profession.

·            Must possess license to perform therapy from Minnesota accredited licensing board: Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist (LP) at the doctoral level.

·            Board certified clinical supervisor preferred.


Required Experience

·         Must have at least 3 years’ experience providing individual, family, and group therapy post masters level graduation and at least 1 year of clinical supervision experience

·         Knowledge of community resources and how to access them

·         Experience with third party billing and electronic health record system is desirable

·         Ability to work independently and to make decisions under pressure

·         Experience working with diverse populations

·         Must have access to a reliable car and possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license and insurance

·         Training and experience in evidence based practice model is desirable.

·         At least 2 years of work providing diagnostic assessments, developing treatment plans and maintaining all clinical documentation

·         Knowledge of resources related to trauma, sexual violence, domestic violence, sexual exploitation and trafficking and how to access them.
