Organization Summary:

Hennepin History Museum's mission is to collect, preserve and share Hennepin County history to educate, enlighten and inspire. We are committed to being inclusive in everything we do and innovative in connecting people to the past, Currently we are conducting a full inventory of our collection - a process expected to take up to two years to complete.

Hours: Flexible:15-20 hours/week; Mon-Fri, 10am-5pm 

Primary Duties:

Assist in the inventory process, including hands-on, object-oriented work to catalog collections items and build an internal and on-line Past Perfect collections database. Other opportunities during the internship may include preparing for upcoming exhibits (including selecting and preparing objects, developing interpretive text, installation, or assisting at public programs in the museum).


  1. Cataloging a diverse range of artifacts from across the collection.
  2. Rehousing collections to current museum standards.
  3. Photographing collection objects to archival standards.
  4. Entering object records into a Past Perfect database.
  5. Researching and writing collections-focused blog posts and social media outreach.

While not necessary, knowledge of museum best practices and/or previous experience with collections management software is a plus.


Additional Info:

Start and end dates of internship, as well as weekly work schedule, are flexible; but preference will be given to candidates who can dedicate 15-20 hours per week during the following days/hours:

Monday-Friday, 10 am - 5 pm

All work in onsite at Hennepin History Museum.

Work is in a shared office environment; non-ADA accessible; must be able to climb stairs. No central air conditioning.
