Organization Summary:

Since 1977, the White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf has played a crucial role in providing food and support for neighbors who are hungry in the White Bear Community.  Programs and services include Monthly Market Shopping, Weekend KID Packs, Mobile Markets, Senior Markets, Community Resource Support, and an Emergency Fund.

Hours: All interns are asked to make at least a semester commitment of consistent weekly shifts during our open shopping hours. 

Primary Duties:

WBAEFS Community Resource Interns are responsible for welcoming neighbors to the food shelf, familiarizing them with our programs, providing information about local food resources, and connecting them to other community assistance programs as needed. Interns are also responsible for updating neighbor information in our database, answering phones, assisting in the warehouse and market, and helping at outreach events as needed.


·         Affirm the mission of providing food and support to our neighbors in partnership with the communities of the White Bear Area

·         Pass a background check

·         Warm, friendly personality

·         Ability to express compassion and empathy for neighbors in vulnerable situations

·         Awareness of personal boundaries with the ability to listen without making judgments or personal suggestions

·         Cultural sensitivity and understanding of serving people in poverty

·         Ability to identify client needs, discuss assistance programs, and provide appropriate referrals

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills

·         Some data entry skills
