Organization Summary:

 Turningpoint for Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization that has provided services and support to residents of Western Wisconsin and the surrounding area for 38 years. Our mission is to provide support and resources to achieve freedom from domestic and sexual violence.

The organization began in the late 70s as a crisis line and a volunteer-driven “safe house” program.  In 1989, after nearly a decade of renting shelter facilities,Turningpoint conducted a successful capital campaign to build our own 14-bed facility, which remains the only domestic and sexual violence crisis shelter in all of Pierce and St. Croix Counties of Wisconsin. In 2016, with the generous support of the community, Turningpoint completed another capital campaign to expand our crisis shelter from 14 to 21 beds, with the potential for future expansion of up to 25 beds.  
Today, Turningpoint offers 24-hour phone and text crisis lines, crisis support and safety planning, legal systems support, children’s programming, violence prevention education, and support groups--including the first young adult support group for victims of violence in Wisconsin.  Turningpoint has been the designated sexual assault services provider for Pierce and St. Croix Counties since 1995.  
In addition to serving people at our River Falls based crisis shelter, Turningpoint offers services at offices above our Second Chances Thrift Store in River Falls; at a satellite location in New Richmond; and through partnerships with the University of Wisconsin River Falls and Western Wisconsin Health in Baldwin. 
Turningpoint's vision is to end domestic and sexual violence in Pierce and St. Croix Counties of Wisconsin.

Hours: Flexible and remote work environment; some evening, early morning, and weekend hours required around special events 

Primary Duties:

The Fundraising and Donor Development Intern will learn how to be part of a fund/donor development team.  Responsibilities will include assisting with planning and implementation of our annual Transforming Lives Fundraising Breakfast and new Empowered Women’s Half-Marathon events.  The Fundraising and Donor Development Intern works under the supervision of the Development Director. 


  • Develop skills in nonprofit event planning and implementation;
  • Utilize research skills to identify potential corporate sponsors for events;
  • Utilize and develop communication skills by assisting with donor acknowledgements and segmented appeals;
  • Expand communication skills by assisting with the development of the organization’s newsletter;
  • Develop organizational skills by tracking sponsorships and donations;
  • Develop skills in working with teams by training and supervising volunteers on-site at the Transforming Lives Fundraising Breakfast, the Empowered Women’s Half-Marathon, and related fundraising and donor stewardship events;
  • Expand leadership skills by managing the social media campaigns for Giving Tuesday and Give to the Max Day online giving campaigns.

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and car insurance that meets requirements of agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Ability to pass background check.
Course work, previous experience, or strong interest in communications, event planning, fund development, or nonprofit management is preferred.
