Cornerstone is a $4.8M agency with approximately 90 employees. We provide specialized services within eleven cities, including Bloomington, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Edina, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove, Richfield, Robbinsdale, St. Louis Park, and Minneapolis. Our organization serves individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking, with office locations in Bloomington, Minneapolis, and Brooklyn Center. Cornerstone has developed one of the most comprehensive service continuums for victims of violence in Minnesota. Our services are designed to move individuals and families from crisis to safety, stabilization and security. Last year approximately 4,000 individuals accessed Cornerstone programming. Job Type: Intern - Unpaid Salary: Unpaid Fall 2017 Internship
Hours: Mon to Thur 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. 16 hrs per week 
 

Primary Duties:

Cornerstone’s continuum of service helps to create communities where individuals and families are safe and children thrive. We advocate, educate and lead the way to social change.

Cornerstone’s ultimate goal is to reduce the prevalence of interpersonal violence. Healthy futures are possible when we coordinate an effective crisis response, implement trauma-informed support services, mitigate the impact of violence on children and youth, and confront the roots of violence.

Children Youth and Families Program Goal:

Cornerstone possess a strong youth and family-centered philosophy. Our commitment to ending domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and human trafficking is demonstrated by the comprehensive programming we deliver to children, youth, and families.

We understand that domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and human trafficking profoundly affects youth. We are committed to the safety, well-being of families and youth, and supporting them to end the generational cycle of abuse.

It is our goal to work towards ending this cycle by reaching out to youth early in the learning process to teach healthy relationship skills. We also want to assure that parents know the important role they play in helping their children heal. If children receive appropriate professional services early on, the potential for positive behavioral change is significantly increased.

Responsibilities:

-          Assist Youth Counselors in after school programming

-          Provide supervised one-to-one and group youth activities including homework help, snack time, creative and athletic activities.

-          Plan and facilitate program activities

-          Maintain professional relationships with clients, staff, and volunteers

-          Attend staff and volunteer meetings, in-service, trainings, etc. as required

-          Complete other assignments as required

-          Regular data entry of youth services provided


Experience:

-          Experience working with children and youth

-          Good communication, listening, and advocacy skills

-          Flexibility, initiative, work cooperatively with others

-          Ability to relate to people of different economic, cultural, racial, and social backgrounds

-          Emotional maturity to work with different economic, cultural, racial, and social backgrounds

-          Ability to adhere to confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries with clients

-          Pass Criminal Background Check

-          Experience with computers; ability to learn data entry system

-          Special talents or abilities a plus such as artistic, musical, creative, dance, sports etc
