Organization Summary:

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) is a volunteer driven nonprofit organization committed to relieving isolation and loneliness in the Twin Cities elder community. This fastest growing segment of the population is a precious community resource deserving of respect and caring attention. To this end, LBFE provides companionship services to elders with a particular focus on services provided by Visiting Volunteer Advocates, Phone Companions, and In-Person Check-In Volunteers, as well as other social engagement opportunities. Our services result in greater elder independence and well-being as we strive to provide the social connections necessary to safe, happy, fulfilled aging. Volunteers are the key to our success.

Job Type: Intern - Unpaid Salary: Unpaid
Hours: Flexible; some evenings and Saturdays required.  
 

Primary Duties:

The intern in this position will play a key role in managing the development and implementation of exemplary volunteer recruitment and outreach methods. Working with a variety of sectors including corporations, faith communities, higher education, civic organizations and the community, the intern will help identify and reach out to prospective volunteer audiences. The intern will play a critical role developing strong relationships and fostering a positive public image. 

  • Help create community networks.
  • Assist with copy for recruitment focused materials.
  • Identify audiences for targeted LBFE presentations, and assist with presentations. 
  • Post and manage volunteer opportunities on external websites. 
  • Monitor, respond to and track volunteer inquiries.
  • Manage orientation sign-ups and paperwork. 
  • Prepare materials for and assist with Volunteer Orientation.
  • Assist with post-orientation follow-up. 

Experience:

  • Smart, savvy, can-do, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Willing and able to take initiative.
  • Excellent writing, phone and social media skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
  • Detail oriented with talent for organization.
  • Access to transportation for community presentations and outreach.

 

Additional Info:

Personal volunteer or civic engagement experience is a plus.
