Organization Summary:

Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) is a volunteer driven nonprofit organization committed to relieving isolation and loneliness in the elder community. This fastest growing population is a precious community resource worthy of respect and caring attention. To this end, LBFE provides companionship services to elders with a particular focus on services provided by Visiting Volunteer Advocates, Phone Companions and Check-In Volunteers, as well as other social programs. Together our services result in greater elder independence and well-being as we strive to provide the social connections necessary to safe, happy, fulfilled aging. Volunteers are key to our success.

Job Type: Intern - Unpaid Salary: Unpaid
Hours: Weekdays between 9:00am and 5:00pm. 
 

Primary Duties:

The intern plays a vital role in support of the elder community; helping to reduce isolation and loneliness leading to better health outcomes and greater independence. 

  • Provide one on one assessments for elders new to LBFE.
  • Assist with matching elders and volunteer visitors.
  • Problem solving elder concerns.
  • Assist with social engagement program coordination.
  • Develop professional one on one connections with elders.
  • Provide case management and advocacy for assigned elders.
  • Occasional home visits.
  • Provide regular documentation on elder interactions.

Experience:

  • Warm, friendly, people oriented personality.
  • Great organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent phone and written communication skills.
  • Ability to set professional boundaries with elders.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Transportation to get to various nursing/elder homes in the Metro area.
