It’s no secret storytelling is a powerful tool every nonprofit can use to get their organization’s message out. The next step is to consider storytelling using what we know about human behavior. In this session, we will move beyond simple storytelling methods to look at how we can better meet our audience where they’re at in order to more effectively reach and inspire them to act. Attendees will learn how people react to various types of messaging, and strategies for incorporating values-based, persuasive language in their communications plans and channels.

This workshop is part of the 2018 Nonprofit Communicator Workshop Series, Data, Dollars & Decisions: The Science of Communication.

This series of four workshops, presented by the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, will help you consider messaging and fundraising in the context of the more universal aspects of what influences and activates us.

Principles & Practices

This event will address the following practices:

  • EVAL 4: An organization’s measurement systems should be practical and useful to improve ongoing processes, activities and results.
  • PLAN 4: Plans should align with the organization’s mission, vision and values.
  • PLAN 7: Organizations should create plans with evaluation in mind, assessing what processes and goals they intend to use and how they will measure their successful completion.

About the Presenter

Pam McCarthyPam McCarthy, principal consultant at Pam McCarthy and Associates, creates programs, messages, and trainings that change lives. She has been tapping into the power of emotions to change behaviors for over 25 years in many developing countries including Pakistan, India, Ghana, Nepal, Uganda, and Tanzania as well as 48 states. In addition to creating programs, Pam conducts emotion-based focus groups to identify deeper behavior change insights.
