Implementing Nonprofit Excellence through Principles & Practices

Do you want to establish and maintain best practices within your nonprofit? This workshop will help you identify practical steps to audit your organization against the Principles and Practices for Nonprofit Excellence and develop a realistic implementation plan for adhering to them. You’ll come away with 133 ways that your organization can ensure stability, quality, and transparency. Learn how these practices can help you keep the passion for your work by building an excellent nonprofit.

This workshop will include presentation of content, interaction with other attendees, and practical tools for implementation. It is open to nonprofit staff and board members as well as anyone who is interested in how to strengthen the Minnesota nonprofit community

As a result of attending this session, participants will:

  • Have an understanding of the purpose and content of MCN’s Principles and Practices for Nonprofit Excellence
  • Conduct a preliminary audit of your organization’s practices against this resource
  • Receive an initial set of recommendations for individualized implementation of excellence
  • Develop an draft implementation plan for the recommendations

About the Presenters

Ashley CharwoodAshley Charwood is the Northwest Minnesota regional coordinator at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, based in Bemidji. Through this part time position, Ashley provides local activities, initiatives and connections to the resources MCN provides in the Northwest Region of Minnesota.

Ashley received her B.S. in social work from Bemidji State University and has a minor in chemical dependency counseling and psychology. Ashley has held positions with nonprofit organizations in Pennsylvania and in the Bemidji area. She is very passionate about the nonprofit sector. Ashley is employed as an early childhood screening team member for the Bemidji School District and has been an active board member and governance committee chair with Bi-County Community Action Programs. Ashley is currently working on her master’s degree from the University Of North Dakota, where she is a graduate teaching assistant.

Emily SteinmetzEmily Steinmetz is the regional coordinator for the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits’ Central Minnesota Chapter based in St. Cloud. Through this part time position, Emily provides local activities, initiatives and connections to the resources MCN provides in the central region of Minnesota.  Before becoming a regional coordinator, she was the community relations manager with Barnes and Noble. Emily has been an active volunteer and board member for the March of Dimes and has served as the founder and resource for several area nonprofits. Additionally, Emily is an adjunct faculty member for the Master of Public Administration program at St. Cloud State University and the volunteer coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central MN.  Emily received her B.S. in business administration from Minnesota State University - Moorhead and her master of business administration from Lynchburg College.
