Budget cuts hurt us all, threatening values and disrupting communities. Strong investments move us all forward. That’s why it’s important to understand Minnesota’s state budget. In this session you'll learn about what the state’s latest economic forecast means for state tax and budget decisions, how state funding is raised and spent, and how you can be part of setting the state’s budget priorities. Participants will gain an understanding of the state’s current budget situation, key budget decision points, and practice how to read budget documents.

Principles & Practices

In an effort to support nonprofits in fulfilling their missions, this event will help to focus your work on the following practices:

  • POLICY 1: Nonprofits should help their clients, members, volunteers and donors learn how relevant policies affect them, develop their skills and knowledge in public policy making, and help them take advantage of opportunities to participate in the public policy process.
