Practical LeadershipEffectively carrying out a supervisor role is more "art" than science. Often, managers are left on their own to try and figure out how to implement their supervisor duties. Yet skilled supervisors are the primary extrinsic factor that creates strong employee engagement and performance. This highly interactive virtual training provides participants with immediately implementable tools and strategies.

This workshop is one of MCN’s most popular trainings and consistently receives high evaluations. Previously only available as a six-hour in-person training, we are now offering it as a virtual training spread over three two-hour sessions. You will receive with tools and ideas that you can immediately implement.

•    Coach approach to supervision

Learning Outcomes:
•    Better understand the competencies of the supervisor role and improved confidence in implementing the role
•    Cultivate self-awareness and accountability for avoiding toxic behaviors in the work place
•    Increase comfort at holding a range of conversations, including developmental feedback
•    Learn strategies for helping employees solve their own challenges
•    Build awareness of when to use coaching in the supervisor role
•    Receive an introduction to the fundamental components of coaching - listening and inquiry

Principles & Practices

In an effort to support nonprofits in fulfilling their missions, this workshop will help to focus your work on the following practices:

  • HR 11: Nonprofit organizations should provide personnel with clear, current job descriptions, a comprehensive orientation, and the resources they need to produce quality work.
  • HR 14: Nonprofit organizations should create a culture of transparency and open communication where internal information is shared as appropriate. This also includes being open to input from personnel regarding the organization’s activities and results on a continual basis.
  • HR 22: Nonprofit personnel should receive ongoing performance-related feedback and a formal performance evaluation at least annually.
  • LEAD 11: Nonprofit leaders should continually develop the skills, knowledge and abilities of others at all levels of the organization to take on greater responsibility for carrying out the organization’s mission and engaging community members.

FAQS

  • What if I have a conflict with one of the three dates?
    Each session builds upon the previous session. Therefore, if you have a conflict with one or more of the sessions, we recommend not registering for this training. We will offer this training again in January, April and October 2018. Registration for the January 2018 offering is now open.
  • Will the sessions be recorded?
    Because of the highly interactive nature of this training, which will include ongoing conversation via chat and polls, it will not be recorded. Instead, materials summarizing the lessons will be provided.
  • Can registrations be shared?
    To achieve the best possible learning outcomes during this training, each participant needs to have their own connection to the virtual classroom, which means registrations can't be shared. Participants will be actively engaging with the trainer via chat and polls, and thus each needs to have their own keyboard, computer, and connection to the training.

About the Presenter

Lisa NegstadLisa Negstad is a nonprofit strategist, leadership coach, and organizational-development advisor with diverse clientele in the nonprofit, philanthropic and public sectors. Believing anyone can be a leader, Lisa lives in two worlds: traditional hierarchies, where she helps managers excel in their role, and collective teams, where she helps groups improve their shared leadership skills. Bridging cultures to empower others has been at the heart of Lisa's career - both through her international NGO work and now with Negstad Consulting. Lisa has an M.B.A. from Yale and a B.A. in psychology from Luther College. Lisa has directly supervised over 70 individuals in various types of departments and organizations.
