The leaders of small nonprofits have to wear many hats – performing tasks that are may be handled in larger organizations by staff members with formal training in those areas. In the Hat Rack workshop series, experts will cover these areas, identifying and streamlining the highest priority tasks.

You can get one free registration with two paid registrations from same organization. Use the manual form to register and note "special group rate" on the form.

This first workshop will have three sections:

  • Introduction: Small nonprofit leadership roles, time management, and self care.

  • Nonprofit Legal and Ethical Essentials: What you need to know/do about annual filings, boards of directors, fundraising, and insurance.

  • Information Technology Essentials: Tips on finding software to help you with your website, emails, donor management, grants management, accounting/finance, social media

About the Presenters

Jacqueline DorseyJacqueline A. Dorsey is a partner in the Hvistendahl, Moersch, Dorsey & Hahn law firm, practicing in the areas of estate planning, trust administration, family law and mediation. She is motivated to help people come to a place where they can say “Look at how my life has changed for the better.” Her knowledge of nonprofit law stems has been bolstered by years of advising nonprofits and serving on the board of directors for organizations of varied sizes. These range from nationally-recognized Minnesota Philanthropy Partners (Minnesota Community Foundation and The St. Paul Foundation) to locally-based Minnesota State Bar Foundation. She currently serves on the boards of GiveMN.org, Minnesota Continuing Legal Education, and is president of Women in Northfield Giving Support.

Ann IijimaAnn Iijima is the Southeast Minnesota regional coordinator for the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits. Prior to joining MCN, Ann served as an associate director of alumni relations at Carleton College, a law professor and vice dean of academic programs at William Mitchell College of Law, and a business litigation attorney. Ann has served on a number of nonprofit boards, including organizations providing educational, health and legal services.

 

John ThomasJohn S. Thomas, through his business, Mr. JST Technology Consulting, specializes in providing technology solutions and consulting services to individuals, small business owners, and nonprofit organizations. For the last four years, Mr. JST Technology has been voted the ''Best Technologist to Take Your Computer to in Southern Minnesota'' by the readers of the SouthernMinn Scene magazine. He specializes in anti-virus installations, data backups, custom training, internet security, and small business network management.
