Grantwriting is a useful skill that is required in many nonprofit positions. Many people who work in nonprofits find themselves in the position of “accidental grantwriter” and do not feel fully equipped for the challenge. This session is geared towards individuals that are brand new to grantwriting and have less than one year of experience.

In this workshop participants will have an opportunity to:

  • Learn about the basics of grantseeking and the types of foundations
  • Develop an understanding of the sections of a grant proposal
  • Review actual grant proposals

Clinic participants will receive a copy of the Handbook for Successful Grant Writing* that covers topics ranging from research and planning to a glossary of commonly used terms.

*The Handbook is only available to participants and is not otherwise for sale.

This session is geared towards people who are newer to the grantwriting field.

This workshop will be offered on February 9, May 25, September 13 and December 6. Please view our Fundraising Trainings page to register for a different date.

Principles & Practices

This event will address the following practices:

  • FINANCE 16: Nonprofit organizations should secure appropriate levels of funding to carry out their missions and activities and, when possible, diversify their revenue sources to avoid being dependent on a single funding type.
  • FINANCE 18: Nonprofits must spend funds in compliance with conditions attached to their funding. Organizations should develop a system to ensure that donor funding restrictions are maintained.
  • FUND 8: Nonprofits must use funds consistent with donor intent and comply with specific conditions placed upon donations.
  • FUND 15: A nonprofit should plan its communications to tell the story of the organization and maintain consistent, mission-focused and timely communication with donors.
