The Medtronic Foundation is committed to improving the lives of people around the world living with chronic disease. Its grantmaking is focused in three areas: health, education and community. Dr. Jacob Gayle became vice president of the Medtronic Foundation and Medtronic community affairs in September, 2011. Jacob brings considerable global health experience to Medtronic, having served as deputy vice president of the Ford Foundation leading the Global Initiative on HIV/AIDS. Prior to that role, he was employed for more than 16 years with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Dr. Jacob Gayle has extensive experience in global programming, including serving as technical advisor and chief of the global HIV/AIDS division to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and as a senior advisor to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Jacob has served around the world, including long-term assignments in South Africa, Switzerland and across the Caribbean. He will lead the strategic development and implementation of global corporate citizenship programs, including philanthropy and employee engagement. He remains an adjunct associate professor at the Emory University Rollins School of Public Health. Jacob received his bachelor’s degree in Psychobiology from Oberlin College and was awarded master’s degrees in preventive medicine and health education/community health, as well as a Ph.D. in community/international health, from Ohio State University.
