Amel Gorani

Amel Gorani is a social justice, peace and community development specialist whose career hasspanned work for governments, foundations, local and international NGOs, across four continents. She is the Director for the Center for Community and Civic Engagement at Carleton College. Before joining Carleton, Amel worked as inclusion coordinator for the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, a Swiss peace mediation organization, on projects in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Amel's previous work has encompassed a wide variety of issues and sectors ranging from political participation, peace and conflict, migration, equality, anti-discrimination, women's rights and sexual violence. She has served as Senior Advisor on Marginalized and Vulnerable Groups for the USAID-Sudan Mission, and as program officer for the Open Society Foundations' International Women's Program and the Swedish International Development Agency, among other posts. 

Amel combines personal and professional expertise in bringing diverse communities together to work on issues of common concern. She has served on boards, grants committees and advisory boards of multiple organizations in Minnesota and internationally including two MCN working groups and the board of the Minnesota International NGO network.
